Can You Negotiate at Best Buy?

Posted by Save Money Frugal Tips

I’m in the market for a new computer; my current one is about six years old. So, just to get an idea about what is out there and price ranges, a friend and I headed over to Best Buy.

Of course, the sales-dude swept over and asked if I needed any help. I asked him some questions, found out what could be tweaked on a particular computer (Ordering only what you need and nothing extra on a computer can save you big money!) and then, after he quoted me the price, asked him if he could do any better.

My friend was mortified! “What are you doing?” she cried. “You can’t haggle at Best Buy!”

She’s wrong. While you may not get the actual price of the item changed, you can often get extras for free or at reduced prices. You should try to save money this way on every big-ticket item you buy. I have never paid delivery charges for any appliance or furniture. Negotiating can be fun, and it always saves you money.

Save Energy and Money by Closing Unused Rooms

Posted by Save Money Frugal Tips

Energy costs are skyrocketing, and people are searching for ways to stretch their budgets to cover heating and electricity in these winter months. Besides turning down the thermostat and increasing insulation, reducing the amount of heat or energy you use by closing up unused or uneccessary rooms can save you a lot of money on your monthly bills.

Close Up Unused Rooms – Registers

All registers in an unused room should be closed and covered to reduce energy costs and reduce waste. Be sure to do the same thing to air vents or registers that both push air into the room and take it out. Baseboard heaters can also be turned off and covered, though this is a bit more difficult.

Am I Saving Enough Money for Emergencies? – Read More Here

How much should you save for emergencies?

A general rule of thumb is to save 3 to 6 months worth of living expenses. This amount is most important in case of job layoff or illness. When you have this amount of money put aside, you can use it as well for incidental emergencies such as plumbing problems or car repairs. The money you take out for these things should be repaid to the account as quickly as possible.
